DINNER TO HONOR LONG ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS

Port Jefferson - The Long Island Chapter of the US Lighthouse Society will hold a dinner to honor the legacy of Long Island’s lighthouse keepers on Friday, March 21, at 7:30PM aboard the paddlewheeler Martha Jefferson. Former lighthouse keepers will be in attendance, and the keynote speaker will be Bill Younger, President of Harbour Lights (makers of fine lighthouse replicas). From 1796 to 1987, many men and women worked day and night to keep the waters off Long Island safe for mariners. Many of their stories will be shared at the dinner as the boat cruises around the harbor, seeing the lights of the Old Field Point and Stratford Shoal lighthouses.

Cost is $75 for Chapter members, $85 for nonmembers; includes dinner, soft drinks, dessert. An optional cocktail hour with Bill Younger and the keepers available for an additional $30. Reservations are required. Send payment to Long Island Chapter, USLHS; 29745 Main Road, Cutchogue, NY 11935 call 631-207-4331, or visit www.LILighthouseSociety.org for more information.
