Lighthouse Lens and Lamp Research

This four panel 4th order lens, half of which is on
display at Montauk Point, is quite unusual. It was manufactured by the American Gas
Accumulator Company (AGA) in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1933. While the frame is American,
the prisms were imported from France, manufactured by Barbier, Benard & Turenne. We do
not know much about the involvement of AGA with lighthouse illumination yet, but we do
know that the company was active in manufacturing runway lighting systems for airports. Inside this lens, an early electric lamp changer is displayed.
